Delivering Hope: Sixth Annual Day of Hope Exceeds Goal!
|
|
On a clear, sunny morning, kindness and generosity emerged in brilliant display across the Santa Maria Valley. As of April 22, more than $223,000 (and counting) has been raised for local cancer patients for the sixth annual Day of Hope!
Shattering old records, this record sum was gathered by the local community spread across two counties on April 10, 2019, who chose to stand with local cancer patients and their families in need. Over 600 community members sold $1 Day of Hope Santa Maria Times, Santa Ynez Valley News, and Lompoc Record newspapers with one hundred percent of proceeds staying in the community.
Special musical guest and Orcutt native Pryor Baird was also on hand to serenade cancer patients and perform at the Day of Hope celebration. On behalf of the physicians, nurses, volunteers, and patients at Mission Hope Cancer Center, we thank you for your support of Day of Hope! View our Flickr account to relive this special day.

Emergency Department Expansion Officially Opens!
The newly expanded Emergency Department is open and ready for patients! In February, California surveyors approved the use of the 10-bed expansion. Following a blessing of the new space, a song provided by Environmental Services Director Chon Hardin, and a few celebratory photos, patients were brought into the new space a few hours later.
Prior to the new hospital opening, Marian operated an Emergency Department with only 18 beds. Now with the new hospital and the recent department expansion, the department has increased to 42 emergency beds and is a Level III Trauma Center. This expansion simply would not be possible without the support of the community, especially the many donors who raised in excess of $2.5 million for the project.

Mark & Dorothy Smith Family Foundation Grant Benefits Marian Extended Care Center Patients
Marian Extended Care Center (MECC) is our 95-bed skilled nursing facility that provides subacute health care for individuals of short-term, intermediate, or long-term care. Located across the street from Marian Regional Medical Center, MECC provides its patients and residents with the finest skilled nursing care on the Central Coast.
For a number of patients, in order to be discharged, certain pieces of medical equipment are needed for patients to thrive in their home. Therefore, we are pleased to share that MECC is the generous beneficiary of a $70,000 grant award from the Mark & Dorothy Smith Family Foundation to help provide for the home medical equipment needs of MECC patients.
Thanks to this generous funding awarded by the Smith Family Foundation, MECC leadership is able to provide necessary medical equipment to patients in need.
